This is MSc module SOMM 2. The module reviews and develops the clinical reasoning and injection therapy skills needed to practise injection therapy effectively and safely. It is open to experienced physiotherapists and medical practitioners wishing to integrate these skills into the clinical management of patients with musculoskeletal disorders.More
The module blends lectures, demonstrations, tutorials, patient clinics, practical time, access to anatomy lab, clinical scenarios and provides an environment for sharing ideas and clinical experiences. It can be attended as a stand alone clinical course or used as an option module (SOMM 2) for the MSc in Musculoskeletal Medicine.
The module is divided into 2 units. Unit I is a 3 day programme which provides the bulk of the taught components and prepares the student for supervised practice in their own clinical setting. The units are separated by a period of inter-unit course work and practical supervised injections. Students can apply for Unit 2 once the inter-unit work is complete, and this 2 day programme provides opportunity for review, presentation of cases & research etc culminating in the practical viva examination on the final day. Successful completion of the module leads to the SOMM Diploma in Injection Therapy.
This module provides a natural progression of learning and advancement of clinical skills for those who have completed the SOMM Diploma in Musculoskeltal Medicine but is open to all practitioners who can satisfy the entry criteria.
